Judy Ann Powell
Judy received a bachelor’s in history and political science from Oakwood University; a master’s in international relations and human rights from New York University; and a master’s in education with a minor in students with disabilities. Judy is also certified in Italian language with a minor in fashion/design from Villa Aurora in Florence, Italy. While studying at NYU Judy participated in two off-Broadway plays, where she continued her love and passion for music and acting. After graduation, Judy worked as an Educator Trainer at Global Kids. While there, she designed workshop curricula to engage students in discussions around genetically modified foods, sustainable farming, and the United Nations Millennium goals. Judy wrote a grant to receive funding to start an international choir. Through this work students learned songs from around the world that were written by people suffering from human rights violations. She interned as an Instructor at Monroe College and collaborated with Columbia’s Teachers College writing social studies curricula for the New York State Regents Examinations. Judy has danced in quite a few Alvin Ailey workshops and ran two 5K races to raise awareness about animal abuse for the Bronx Zoo. A lifelong learner herself, Judy is a teacher committed to helping her students master content and skills. She believes that everyone can reach his or her full potential as an inquisitive student.
